JUDE Accessories Exhibition 2010

Jude held an exhibition of the 2010 Accessories Collection at Oak Off Chapel Fashion Gallery in December 2010.

Featuring a capsule collection of 30 new designs, the collection was split into 2 contrasting stories - Rajah Maharajah and Deco Dinosaur. The Rajah Maharajah collection took inspiration from the pomp and splendour of Colonial India, where status and importance is emphasised by bold colour and rich detail. The Deco Dinosaur collection combines elegant Art Deco inspired shapes with raw edged prehistoric and punk elements to create a disturbingly beautiful hybrid.

By showing two stories side by side, I created an interesting dynamic between the two - bold colour and rich embellishment VS sharp angular shapes in black studded in spikes.

Focusing on avant garde statement pieces which pushed the limitations of accessories design, each piece was crafted using couture techniques such as beading, hand embroidery and saddle stitching.

THE OPENING NIGHT

The exhibition opening was a great success with half the work sold on the night. A small group of 70 invited guests mingled, enjoyed drinks & nibbles and after party performances by drag artist, Miss Moneesha.

Eco Fashionista X Jude

The now defunct Eco Fashionista was a Fabulous online boutique featuring eco friendly fashion from designers around the world. Based in Melbourne, Alex Hume had a keen eye for contemporary fashion which was sustainable and high quality.

I was introduced to Eco Fashionista through the lovely Lady Melbourne who had seen her wearing my couture neckpiece at fashion week.

Eco Fashionista wanted to collaborate with me to come up with a capsule collection of accessories which was along the same design lines as my Nocturnal range. I had used beautiful vintage Japanese silks and recycled leather in the collection, which had appealed to them. This was an exciting opportunity which I could not wait to get started on!

The process started with sketches which I submitted to them. The collection was then made in limited quantities. The small collection was launched along with their other product lines at the opening in their Fitzroy showroom.

The opening night was blogged by Mel Hot Or Not:

Lady Melbourne Cammelia Necklace

JUDE created a one of a kind couture necklace for fashion blogger extraordinaire, Lady Melbourne, for her to wear to the 2010 Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.

The statement necklace was hand crafted using vintage black Japanese silk, and embellished with crystal, jet, onyx beads and vintage chain.

It was a pleasure working with Ms Pheobe, and she certainly worked the necklace all fashion week!

BAM Brands Sydney Showcase

JUDE Accessories Nocturnal collection was featured at the BAM Brands showcase in Sydney.

It was so great working with the team at BAM. They were approachable, generous and gave great advice to a fledgling label like myself. Although I was not ready to have my brand picked up by them, they still offered to showcase my label at their bi-annual Sydney showcase.

This was such a great opportunity to push my work forward to a larger audience, and gain valuable insights from industry experts and people from influential fashion publications.

Oak Off Chapel fashion gallery launch

JUDE Accessories was featured at the opening of the Oak Off Chapel gallery in Prahran. Oak was a fantastic concept space - A warehouse on the brink of being torn down converted into a space which showcased the work of emerging Australian designers.

What a great night it was! The warehouse was packed with colourful people drinking, mingling and partying.
I met lots of interesting industry folk, including undeground fashion bloggers, stylists and journalists.
It was here that my label gained a great deal of publicity, following the meeting of Pheobe Montague from Lady Melbourne blog, and the team from BAM brands.

The collection featured at the opening was the Nocturnal range, inspired by flowers at night. I got a hugely positive response for the debut of this capsule collection.

The opening night was featured on these blogs:
